Our News03 Aug 2008: CLOSING EVENT OF THE EU-FUNDED SME PROJECT On 3 August the EU-funded project “Support to the Development of Business Capacity of Ukrainian SMEs – International Dimension” held its closing event. The project with budget of more than ˆ2 million started in September 2007 and lasted until August 2009. Experience of pilot SME companies from three sectors, lessons learnt and recommendations were presented at the closing event by the project team, State Committee for Regulatory Policy and Entrepreneurship, project stakeholders and beneficiaries.
One of the important objectives of the project was to help SMEs to expand their business with EU partners through provision of practical information, advice and useful tools related to exporting and attracting investment as well as to raise awareness about the benefits of internationalisation. An important step in this process was to become familiar with EU market developments and tools for efficiency improvement and export planning.
Business partnership development mission for Ukrainian IT companies linked to Internet World 2009, London, UK has been organized and implemented by the European Union Project to support the development of business capacity of Ukrainian SMEs. The mission was combined with the participation in the Internet World 2009 Europe's largest, longest running and best attended trade show. During the Internet World the mission participants have presented their companies and products and services to potential business partners from EU countries as well as carried out the number of face-to-face business meetings with leading IT and Marketing organizations attending the event. In addition, the mission agenda has included business and official meetings with various organizations based in UK, such as the Association of Ukrainians in Great Britain (AUGB), the British Ukrainian Society, Ukrainian City Club in London and Ukrainian Embassy in London. During the meetings partners have expressed an interest to support the mission participants in entering the EU market and promote Ukraine as reliable and attractive destination for the outsourcing and offshoring of IT and business services. The Project participants expressed a positive results and emphasized an increased opportunities to build business relationships with EU partners as a result of direct contacts established during the event and business contacts organized by Project team. Also, the project participants have gained a better understanding of the latest developments of European IT industry, innovations, trends and Western approach of doing business. The results of the mission will certainly have long-term impact and benefits for the Ukrainian IT industry and will facilitate building of business relationships between Ukrainian and EU organizations as well as encourage the European approach of doing business for Ukrainian companies. For EU-Ukraine relations, SMEs have long been a key sector for co-operation. The EU-Ukraine Action Plan commits partners to working together to develop the Ukrainian legislative and administrative framework for SME promotion.
Currently the EU is supporting the ongoing project "Support to the Development of Business Capacity of Ukrainian SMEs – International Dimension" which will run until August 2009. The objectives of this project are to improve State policy in the sphere of SME support development, to facilitate commercial links between Ukrainian and with EU companies and to increase awareness of business internationalisation in the public and SME sector.
